When looking for a romantic connection, it is now unusual not to use a dating app. Tinder and Badoo are the brands to beat in America, and Millennials are the generation that made online dating mainstream. Singles seem happy to battle through the potential pitfalls of meeting someone online, as companionship is a likely outcome for many.
Additionally, as of September 2023, 52 percent of online dating service users in the United States were Millennials, while 22 percent belonged to Generation Z and a further 22 percent to Generation X. Just one in five online daters were Baby boomers. Moreover, 67 percent of dating app users in the U.S. were men. On average, American online dating service users spent around 50 minutes per day on dating apps, with men spending slightly more of their time than women using such platforms.
In terms of downloads, Bumble took the top spot with 634,000 monthly downloads in June 2024, while Tinder ranked second with over 611,000 monthly downloads in the measured period.
Unfortunately, some users reported lying on their profiles. Overall, 21 percent of online dating service users in the United States had lied about their age, while 14 percent had falsified their income. Other things people were not completely honest about were their hobbies, interests, and height.
Nevertheless, dating apps have resulted in 75 percent of U.S. men who had met someone through such means reporting to have been in an exclusive relationship following meeting someone via an app, as did 66 percent of women.
