In a survey conducted among 1,010 artisans in Morocco, it was revealed that 49 percent of them experienced a reduction in sales as of December 2020, six months after the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown. Moreover, while 41 percent of them faced a cessation in sales, 39 percent were unable to cater for their expenses. According to the same survey, most craftsmen reported that receiving subsidies on items such as equipment and raw materials would help them operate in full force. Overall, close to 1.4 million people were employed in the crafts industry in Morocco as of 2018.
