Both foreign currency and sterling assets held at UK-owned monetary financial institutions increased between January 2014 and November 2023, following more or less the same development. As of November 2023, banks in the UK held roughly 3.2 trillion British pounds in sterling assets and 1.95 trillion British pounds worth of foreign currency assets.
