Contactless card limits in Europe 2019, by country

This statistic illustrates the maximum limits for contactless payments across Europe as of January 2019, in euros. Overall there were 6 countries in Europe where the contactless payment limit was 30 euros or higher. As of 2019, Denmark had the highest limit across Europe of nearly fifty euros. Poland and Macedonia had the lowest limit of any European countries at approximately 12 euros. In fact, Poland and Macedonia make up two of the three countries with the lowest contactless limit worldwide.

Contactless limits allow for payments using near-field communication technology (NFC) without the use of a PIN number authorization. In Asia, countries including Japan, China and Hong Kong have contactless payment limits exceeding one hundred euros. Japan, having the highest limit of any country worldwide has a limit of 20,000 Japanese Yen, approximately 162 Euros.
