Number of U.S. patents issued FY 2017-FY 2021, by residency of applicant
In the fiscal year of 2021, more patents were issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to foreign nationals than to U.S. residents. In that year, 198,730 patents were issued to residents of foreign countries, compared to 170,059 patents issued to residents of the United States.
