Most popular Android and iOS apps in South Korea 2024, by usage time
Based on sampled data, YouTube was the longest used Android and iOS application in South Korea as of April 2024, with a total of around 102.5 billion minutes. This was followed by KakaoTalk, a popular South Korean messenger application.
YouTube’s popularity
YouTube is widely popular around the world and its popularity in South Korea has become undeniable. It was the never heard of YouTube at all before. The most preferred content on YouTube was music, while around 51 percent stated that they were watching news on YouTube in 2024.
The homeland of Samsung
Given that smartphone giant Samsung is based in South Korea, it is unsurprising that smartphones play an important part in the everyday lives of most South Koreans. According to a governmental survey in 2023, close to 95 percent of South Koreans owned a smartphone. While Apple is among the top three brands in the South Korean smartphone market, Samsung was clearly leading the market in 2024.
