In 2022, Natura &Co was by far the largest pharmaceutical and cosmetics company in Brazil. The cosmetics group generated a net revenue of over 35 billion Brazilian reals that year. Other firms that made the list of leading companies in Brazil’s pharmaceutical and cosmetics sector included Pfizer, Eurofarma, Hypera Pharma, and Grupo NC.
Brazil’s leading beauty company
Headquartered in São Paulo, Natura &Co owns the acclaimed brands Avon, Natura, and The Body Shop. As of 2022, the group operated in more than 100 countries, with over 2,300 stores and 32,000 employees. That year, the South America continent accounted for almost half of the group’s total net revenue worldwide, at around 17.5 billion Brazilian reals.
In the same year, the Natura brand accounted for over 60 percent of the group’s net revenue, while Australian luxury care brand Aesop accounted for the smallest share, at 7.5 percent. In 2023, Natura &Co sold Aesop to French competitor personal care company, L’Oréal, for around 2.5 billion U.S. dollars. The acquisition was completed in end-August 2023.
Personal care industry in Brazil
In 2023, Brazil’s beauty and personal care market amounted to around 24.5 billion U.S. dollars. This is expected to grow annually by 5.96 percent over the next five years. The majority of companies in the beauty and personal industry are based in São Paulo, the financial center of Brazil which has a population of over 12.3 million people.
