In 2016 the share of point of sale (POS) payments under 5 euros made up for 34 percent of overall payments in the Euro area. Point of sale (POS) payments over 100 euros made up for only two percent, showing a trend of change to payment instruments used for more expensive purchases, such as credit and debit cards.
