In 2022, around 2.1 thousand people suffered from the food-borne diseases contracted from food service business. In total, about 5.5 thousand fell ill from food-borne diseases this year. As the year 2020 marked the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, lockdowns, and restrictions on dining out, the number of food-borne disease outbreaks and patients was much lower than in previous years. The number of food-borne disease outbreaks and patients saw a sharp increase in 2021.
