Food-borne disease patients in South Korea 2023, by place
In 2023, around 3,500 people suffered from the food-borne diseases contracted from food service business. In total, about 8,800 fell ill from food-borne diseases this year. As the year 2020 marked the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, lockdowns, and restrictions on dining out, the number of food-borne disease outbreaks and patients was much lower than in previous years. The number of food-borne disease outbreaks and patients saw a sharp increase in 2021.
