In 2021, the occupancy rate of curative (acute) care beds in hospitals in Canada was almost 87 percent. In the year 2000, Canada had an acute care bed occupancy rate of around 89 percent. High occupancy rates may be a sign that a health system is under pressure and that there may be a risk of bed shortages and higher rates of infection.
