This statistic displays the percentage of U.S. adults that knew how Lyme disease is transmitted as of 2017, by age. According to the survey, 95 percent of respondents aged 55 to 64 years correctly indicated that Lyme disease is transmitted via tick bite. Comparatively, 76 percent of respondents aged 18 to 34 years correctly indicated that Lyme disease is transmitted from a tick bite. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
