Number of movie screens in South Korea 2024, by region
As of January 2024, there were 935 movie screens in Gyeonggi (Gyeonggi Province), South Korea. The city with the highest number of movie screens was Seoul, with 605 operational screens.
Cinemas
In the same period, 161 cinemas were operating in Gyeonggi, while 98 cinemas were operating in Seoul. Almost all cinemas in South Korea are multiplex theaters operated by one of three cinema chains. Around half of the South Korean box revenue are made in cinemas that are owned and operated by CGV, which is a subsidiary of the CJ Corporation, followed by Lotte Cinema and Megabox. Only around three percent of the box office revenue is made in cinemas are not owned by one of those three companies.

As of December 2023, "Extreme Job" was the highest-grossing domestic movie, overtaking "Avatar", the highest-grossing foreign movie in the country.
