Global landfill waste generated per capita 2022, by select country

In 2022, approximately 727 kilograms of waste per capita was sent to landfills in New Zealand, the highest figure among OECD countries. Canada ranked second, with more than 600 kilograms per capita. In contrast, less than 10 kilograms of waste per capita was sent to landfills in countries such as Denmark, Germany, Japan, and Sweden.
