Exports of recovered scrap paper from the U.S. 2022, by main destination
India is the leading importer of recovered waste and scrap paper and paperboard from the U.S., with more than three million tons imported in 2022. It was followed by Mexico, Thailand, and Vietnam, each with more than 1.6 million tons imported that year. The U.S. exported around 15 million tons of recovered paper scrap in 2022. China was the main importer of U.S. recovered fibers in the past decade, but the country began restricting waste imports in 2018, and imports of recovered fibers are now officially banned.
