In 2021, pumped hydro accounted for more than 90 percent of the rated power storage in the U.S., with more than 27 gigawatts. Electrochemical technologies followed by a large margin, with 874 megawatts. In contrast, that year, more than 400 gigawatts of standalone and hybrid battery storage projects were in interconnection queues in the U.S.
