In 2023, the generation, storage, and hybrid electricity capacity in interconnection queues in the United States amounted to some 2.6 terawatts. Solar and solar hybrid projects had the highest capacity in queues in 2023, both at 525 gigawatts, each. By comparison, solar capacity projects in interconnection queues in 2010 accounted for only 51 gigawatts.

According to the source, interconnection queue data through the end of 2023 was compiled for seven independent system operators (ISOs) and 44 utilities, serving about 95 percent of all U.S. electricity load. Only projects listed in queue records as "active" were included. Projects listed as "online", "withdrawn" or "suspended" were excluded. For hybrid projects that include storage, only the generator capacity is included.
