The number of pensioners in Belgium varied by type of pension in 2022. As of the 1st of January 2022, 302,300 Belgians received both a retirement and a survivor's pension after their legal partner passed away. On the other hand, under 1,700 thousand people received a transitional pension in Belgium in 2022. Such a pension is allocated when the surviving partner does not fulfill the age requirement to be entitled to a survivor's pension.

The figures only present the pension data for employees and not for civil servants. Although since April 1, 2016 both Pension Services and their data are collected under one service, the Federal Pension Fund, the figures for 2017 as presented below are still separated and only include employees.
A survivor's pension in Belgium is the pension paid to the longest living legal partner, based on the monthly salary of the deceased partner.
