Average training hours an employee receives in a year in the UK 2015

This statistic shows the average number of training hours received by an employee in a year for organizations in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2015. The largest share of respondents, with 23 percent, gave their employees an average of over 40 hours of training in a year. However, more than 40 percent gave their employees less than 20 training hours. A similar survey conducted among organizations found that almost 50 percent of respondents reported on-the-job training to be the practice they thought most effective for learning and development processes of their employees, with coaching by line managers or peers coming in a close second at 40 percent. By comparison, instructor-led training delivered off the job was only considered effective by one fifth of surveyed organizations. This also reflects the most commonly used learning and development practices, with half of the respondents reporting on-the-job training to be the most commonly used mode of training.
