This statistic illustrates the important reasons for people working beyond retirement age according to respondents in the United Kingdom (UK) as of 2017. It can be seen that the majority of respondents (65 percent) declared that the desire to continue working stems from the wish to keep mentally and physically active. A further 45 percent of respondents stated that they would continue working beyond retirement age as they enjoy their work or career. However, concerns about social security benefits was the third most often quoted reason for continuing working with 30 percent of respondents pointing to that motive.
