This bar chart compares how the Boston Consulting Group rated the performance of rail services in European countries in 2015, in terms of safety. The considerations in calculating the safety of rail services were the number of accidents and fatalities that occured during journeys by rail. Great Britain and Denmark shared the highest rating of 2.8.

The calculation of the safety rating took into account the number of accidents and fatalities per kilometre travelled.
The source provides the following information regarding calculation methodology:
Each dimension comprises at least two subdimensions, and all were given equal weight. (See Exhibit 1.) We rescaled the data to represent a score out of ten for each subdimension. To create the index, we then combined the ratings for each dimension and subdimension based on their weighting.
