Total coffee consumption in South Korea 2019-2023/24

Around 3.35 million bags of coffee, each bag weighing 60 kilograms, were consumed in South Korea in 2023/2024. Coffee consumption has increased steadily over the past years and coffee was one of the most popular drinks for Koreans.

Coffee retail sales

The sales of coffee products in South Korea kept increasing along the ongoing popularity. The term ‘’coffee products’’ is used because there are various types of coffees sold in Korea, such as instant coffees and capsule coffees. Liquid coffees and coffee beverages containing milk were the bestsellers, accounting for roughly 1.24 trillion South Korean won in sales. Coffee mixes, where sugar and cream are packaged together with instant coffee, trailed behind the second placed coffee beans. The products of Dongsuh Foods were by far the most popular, based on sales.

Café culture in South Korea

Just as South Koreans love their coffee, cafés can be found everywhere. Despite being a comparably small country, the number of coffee shops and cafés keeps increasing. The large majority of these are franchise stores. With long opening hours and easy accessible locations, franchise cafés have quickly become the number one spot to get coffee.
