In 2023, Dow generated some 44.6 billion U.S. dollars of revenue, a decrease of about 22 percent in comparison to the previous year. This was the lowest figure recorded since 2020 – a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic – when Dow's revenue had dropped to some 38.5 billion dollars. Dow is a U.S.-based chemical company, and one of the largest companies in the chemical industry worldwide. It is headquartered in Midland, Michigan.

Dow is composed of four different segments: Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure, Performance Materials & Coatings, and Corporate. The Packaging & Specialty Plastics segment generated the most revenue in 2023, at over 23 billion U.S. dollars. Their Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure segment followed, bringing in some 12.5 billion dollars. In regional terms, the U.S. alone accounted for over a one-third share of Dow’s revenue in 2023, with 15.3 billion dollars.
DowDuPont merger and spin-off
On September 1, 2017, Dow Chemical and DuPont successfully completed a merger of equals. From that date until April 1, 2019, the single company was known as DowDuPont. After that point in time, the conglomerate split into three entities: Dow, DuPont, and Corteva. Dow is primarily dedicated to commodity chemicals, whereas DuPont focuses on specialty chemicals, and Corteva in agricultural chemicals and seeds.
