Anadarko Petroleum Corporation was a United States-based explorer and producer of oil and natural gas, until the company was acquired by Occidental Petroleum in 2019. In 2018, the company employed some 4,700 people.
Anadarko faced controversy due to its association with BP in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. However, a federal judge has deemed that Anadarko was not culpable in the well-drilling operations that led to the environmental disaster. As of April 2014, BP faced about 17 billion U.S. dollars in civil fines for the damage. In 2014, Anadarko and the U.S. federal government have also signed one of the largest settlements in history at 5.15 billion U.S. dollars for environmental contamination. A majority of the settlement money will be funded into environmental cleanups and to settle other claims from contamination. The cleanup occured across 22 states and the Navajo Nation.

The company had been rated among the top employers in Denver and one of the best large companies to work for in the Houston area.
