U.S. sales of refrigerated milk alternatives 2020, by brand

In the 52 weeks ending June 12, 2020, H P Hood Inc brands generated over 50 million U.S. dollars’ worth of refrigerated milk substitute sales, making it the leading milk alternative brand in the United States. All Oatly Inc ranked second that year, generating just over 30 million U.S. dollars.

Milk and dairy alternatives

There are various kinds of milk on the U.S. market, including soy, coconut, rice, and oat milk. Generating nearly one and a half billion U.S. dollars of sales, the most popular alternative to regular milk was unequivocally almond milk. By comparison, soy milk ranked second with just under 200 million U.S. dollars’ worth of sales. While milk substitutes made up a large part of the overarching dairy alternative market, the market was also comprised of several other categories, e.g., ice-cream, yogurt, and cheese.

Plant-based foods

Over the years, plant-based foods have become increasingly popular and important in the United States. In 2019, the plant-based foods market included a range of product categories, such as plant-based dairy goods, meat alternatives, and egg substitutes. With a sales value of almost two billion U.S. dollars, milk alternatives made up the largest category that year.
