A 2024 survey conducted among Chinese respondents discovered the prevalence of short drama addiction among mature adults. Over two-thirds of respondents confirmed the phenomenon when asked whether they had recognized any middle-aged adults or elderly people showing such digital addiction. Opinions were divided on whether short dramas help alleviate loneliness among older adults, or contribute to confusion and distorted perceptions of reality by misleading storylines.
