China's video game market is characterized by a massive user base and a high consumer spending. Compared to other markets in the Asia-Pacific region, Chinese players appeared to be more generous when it comes to game purchases. A 2023 survey pointed out that 56 percent of Chinese respondents reported paying over 21 U.S. dollars for video games per month, whereas in general, more than half of respondents in the Asia-Pacific region indicated a monthly gaming spending below than 10 U.S. dollars.

A total of 12,204 respondents with a balanced gender ratio from 13 Asia-Pacific markets were surveyed. About 20 percent of respondents were between 18 and 24 years old, slight over 66 percent were between 25 and 44 years old, the remaining fell between 45 and 54 years old. The source did not specify the sample size of respondents in mainland China.
