Sake is Japan's national beverage, but only around one in five consumers frequently drink the alcoholic beverage outside the home. According to a survey conducted in September 2023, consumption of Japanese rice wine when eating out was most common among consumers aged 70 years and older, 19.3 percent.
The survey revealed that younger consumers in their twenties and thirties would more likely drink sake in food service establishments, while older consumers showed a preference for home consumption.
