Solid biofuels and renewable waste energy capacity in Brazil 2014-2023
In 2023, Brazil boasted the largest capacity for solid biofuels and waste energy in Latin America, reaching nearly 17.1 gigawatts. This marks a considerable growth from 2014, when the bioenergy capacity stood at 12.2 gigawatts. Bagasse, a fibrous byproduct left after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract their juice, constituted the largest portion, with a capacity of 12.45 gigawatts.
