A 2024 survey revealed that short video addition significantly affects the interpersonal skills and relationships among Chinese smartphone users. Seven out of ten respondents reported that they become "phubbing", the act of ignoring a companion in favor of a mobile phone, and engage less in interpersonal communication. Furthermore, 55.5 percent expressed that their leisure time is dominated by watching short videos, leaving them feeling relatively burdened.

Among the respondents who participated in this survey, 27.6 percent were born after 2000, 42.8 percent were born between 1990 and 1999, 23.1 percent were born between 1980 and 1989, five percent were born between 1970 and 1979, and 1.5 percent were from others.
