Share of votes won by the League 1992-2024
The League, formerly known as North League, has continuously contested in Italian elections since 1992. Right after the foundation, the party's votes ranged around eight percent, before a decisive fell in the early 2000s, when it collected less than five percent of the ballots. However, under Matteo Salvini's secretaryship from 2013, the League experienced a firm growth, becoming the most voted list of the center-right coalition in 2018 and the first party nationwide in 2019. Thereafter, Salvini's leadership began to erode, scoring in 2022 the worst electoral result since 2014. Currently, the League is part of the governing coalition led by the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
