Private financing of Italian parties 2016-2023, by political party

The Democratic Party (PD) has constantly been the political association collecting the largest private contributions from taxpayers. This ranged between 6.4 million euros in 2016 to 8.1 million euros in 2023, with a peak in 2019, when PD received 8.4 million euros. Between 2016 and 2020, the League was the second most chosen party, able to collect up to three million euros in 2019. This curve is consistant with the one describing the share of votes won, as in the same year the right-wing faction secured almost 35 percent of the consensus, the best result since its foundation. However, from 2021, Brothers of Italy (FdI) became the second most selected party, after a growth started in 2018, which allowed FdI to raise almost five million euros in 2023, while other political formations did not go beyond 1.1 million euros.
