In 2022, the value of credit and debit card deposits to electronic monetary institutions (EMI) digital wallets in Saudi Arabia was more than four times that of bank transfers, at around 57.6 billion Saudi riyals.
That year, the total value of EMI digital wallet deposits in Saudi Arabia stood at 69.8 billion Saudi riyals. This was the first time bank transfer deposits to EMI digital wallets experienced decreased by 500 million SAR compared to the previous year. Credit and debit card payments have always been the preferred method of deposit, and the gap with bank transfers has only increased over the years.
