In 2022, Pakistan's waste-related methane (CH4) emissions were equivalent to 43 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂e). Since 1990, CH4 emissions from solid waste disposal and wastewater treatment in Pakistan have more than doubled.
Pakistan had one of the highest number of methane-super emitter events worldwide in 2022. Almost all of these events were at waste sites.
