Personalized content has become increasingly important for the success of social media advertising, especially among female consumers. According to a 2023 survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in China, about 45 percent of female respondents stated that they were only interested in viewing social media ads that are customized to their interests or likes, slightly higher than their male counterparts. About 42 percent of male respondents could accept such sponsored advertisements because the use of social media platforms is free, compared to only a third of female respondents saying so.
