According to a 2023 survey, literature, fiction, and psychology books were the most popular genres among young book readers in Hong Kong, with over 40 percent approval rates. The same survey also found that half of the respondents read books without considering additional benefits.

The average age of respondents was 17.5 years old. Male respondents accounted for 47.3%. About 65.6% of respondents had a secondary school degree whereas the rest achieved a bachelor degree or above. About 84.1% of respondents were born in Hong Kong.
