Young people in Hong Kong have a positive attitude towards reading. A 2023 survey found that four in every five respondents had a habit of reading books. Overall, respondents read an average of four printed books and one digital book in the last six months prior the survey period.
Book reading habits among teenage and young adults in Hong Kong as of April 2023
The average age of respondents was 17.5 years old. Male respondents accounted for 47.3%. About 65.6% of respondents had a secondary school degree whereas the rest achieved a bachelor degree or above. About 84.1% of respondents were born in Hong Kong.
