In June 2023, three major chemical companies reached an agreement in principle to resolve PFAS-related drinking water contamination claims from U.S. public water systems. The settlement amounts to roughly 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, of which DuPont will contribute some 400 million U.S. dollars. These funds will deposited into the water district settlement fund.
Also known as "forever chemicals', PFAS have been linked to significant adverse health impacts. Some PFAS can take 1,000 years to degrade.
