In 2020, the transportation sector and the chemical and power sector represented the two downstream applications with the largest of total fluoropolymer sales value in Europe, with 280 million euros and 200 million euros, respectively. Between 2015 and 2020, most sectors remained stable or experienced a decrease in sales volumes, with medical applications and textiles and architecture seeing the most significant drops. In terms of the total sales value however, there was significant growth in several sectors, including renewable energy, electronics, and "other sectors".

*The 2015 sales value of fluoropolymers associated with renewable energy was given as less than five.
The source notes that differences in how companies reported downstream user sectors of their products and additional companies participating in the current survey could distort the comparison between 2015 and 2020 data. The source also notes that the original survey results were extrapolated to the entire EU market in the 2016-2017 Fluoropolymer SEA study, while the current survey already covers a high share of the market and as such extrapolation was not considered to be necessary.
