According to a survey conducted in 2023, more Americans believed that the legacy of slavery still influences society today by a great deal or a fair amount in the United States, at 52 percent, compared to 38 percent who said that slavery does not influence society much or at all. Republicans were most likely to agree that the legacy of slavery has little influence on American society today, at 62 percent, followed by 38 percent of Independents and 18 percent of Democrats.
