According to a survey conducted among South Korean department store visitors in April 2023, close to 79 percent of respondents with an average monthly household income between 4.5 and 7.5 million South Korean won stated while they bought groceries in department stores, it was not their main channel for grocery shopping. Those in the low-income bracket with incomes of 4.5 million won or less were the most likely to use department stores as their main grocery shopping channel at a respondent share of 11.7 percent. However, they were also the most likely to never buy groceries at department stores with 24.5 percent of respondents from this income group answering this way.
