When surveyed in the summer of 2023, some 56 percent of survey respondents in selected European Union countries* mentioned that sustainable food is more expensive as a factor that prevents or stops them from eating types of food that are better for the environment and are more sustainable. Approximately 30 percent of respondents stated that there is not enough information on the environmental and social impacts of food products.

Respondents were asked: Which of the following, if any, prevents or stops you from eating types of food that are better for the environment and are more sustainable?
*Respondents that live in Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Portugal, Sweden or the UK.
