Discord: global weekly active servers 2020-2023

In 2023, it was estimated that the number of communities on Discord - also known as servers - had grown to 19 million monthly active online spaces and users' aggregators. This represents an increase of 180 percent compared to the 6.7 million servers estimated in 2020. Servers on Discord can be either private or public. Private servers are only accessible via direct invite and are usually used by a group of friends who want a space to chat and talk all for themselves. In comparison, public servers can be affiliated with a Subreddit, a brand, a Twitch streamer, or a larger thematic group that chose Discord to gather and communicate. As of January 2023, the Discord-exclusive Midjourney server - launched by the homonymous AI research lab in July 2022, counted over 9.5 million registered members, ranking as the most popular server on the platform.
