During a survey conducted in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States in September 2021, approximately 41 percent of responding adults said they had the highest expectations when shopping at an independent local business. Around 38 percent stated that they expected the most from local stores part of national chains. One-fifth (20 percent) of respondents placed their highest expectations on e-commerce websites. About two-thirds said they either agreed or strongly agreed that they were more likely to trust a local business than an online one.
