A 2022 survey pointed out the common concern among Hong Kong Gen Z and millennials that stricter regulations might be applied on social media in the near future to limit the freedom of speech. A third of respondents between 18 to 40 years old would use a VPN to access foreign social media platforms if stricter regulations were applied. However, only eight percent indicated to have a VPN subscription at the time of the survey.

Female respondents accounted for 50.8 percent.
Age distribution of respondents:
18 to 24 years old: 72.9 percent;
25 to 30 years old: 15.1 percent;
31 to 40 years old 12 percent.
