According to a survey on the movie consumer preferences in China released in April 2022, almost 38 percent of respondents would like to see more new sci-fi or fantasy movies released. Excitement for new history/war and suspense/crime movies was also high, supported by about 31 percent of respondents.
Movie genres considered to be undersupplied among respondents in China as of March 2022
Among the respondents, 52.8% were males and 47.2% were females; 33.3% were 25 years old or below and 66.7% were older than 25 years; 13.8% lived in tier-1 cities, 44.9% in tier-2, 19.5% in tier-3, and 21.8% were from tier-4 cities.
