In a May 2022 survey, parents in the United States were asked at what age they thought children should have their own social media account. Approximately 16 percent of respondents answered age 16, the most selected answer by one percentage point over the next most common answers, 13 and 15 years old. In general, parents were more likely to agree to individual social media accounts for children aged 12 and above. In most social media platforms' terms and conditions, children age 13 and below are not allowed to create an account. The most popular app used by U.S. children was TikTok, with 99 minutes of daily usage.
