In the third quarter of 2024, the number of domestic transactions via bank cards in Vietnam reached over 202 million. In the same period, the value of these transactions amounted to approximately 367 trillion Vietnamese dong in the country. Previously one of the most cash-dependent countries in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has seen substantial growth in cashless payment usage among its population in recent years.

According to the source, the volume and value of domestic card payment transactions reported by issuing bank excluded: (i) international transactions, card payment transactions initiated by oversea issuing banks; (ii) deposits, withdrawals or transfers from whom senders and receivers are the same; and (iii) repayments between credit institutions and their customers (i.e, loans, principal/interest payments, fees,..).
