As of October 2020, there were around 10 thousand outpatients aged 65 years and older per 100 thousand inhabitants in Japan in a day. In the last decade, the number of outpatients in a day per 100 thousand population decreased steadily for the senior age cohort.
Estimated number of outpatients receiving treatments in a day per 100,000 population in Japan from 1993 to 2020, by age group
The survey was conducted at medical facilities on one designated date set for each institution from three days in October.
Rate of treated patients per day = estimated number of patients / total population (based on the national census) x 100,000
The estimated number of patients refers to the number of patients who received treatments at medical facilities on the surveyed day. It excludes the number of returning outpatients who were not treated during that period.
