According to a survey in 2021 among South Korean webtoon artists, almost 75 percent of respondents stated that they have experienced their webtoons being uploaded to another website illegally. On these websites, either copies of the works are being uploaded directly or scanlations. Scanlations are scans of the original works with translations made by the uploader.
