According to a 2021 survey conducted among internet users in Canada, 87 percent of respondents agreed that Facebook, now named Meta Platforms, contributes to misinformation and the sharing of fake news. Additionally, 87 percent agreed that the company's platforms can be harmful to children and teenagers who use them and almost half of all respondents agreed that they threaten democracy. A quarter of internet users in Canada felt that Facebook had a positive impact on their quality of life.
